Residential development, Hovingham

The development at Hovingham is for 27 proposed new dwellings. Consisting of a mix of apartments, semi detached, terraced and detached properties to reflect the existing range of housing stock in Hovingham.

The design of the village reflects the village vernacular. Incorporating stone walls, natural clay tiled or natural blue slate roof coverings, painted timber windows and doors and mainly chimney brick stacks. Much of the styling and detailing is borrowed from existing housing in the village , enabling the new housing to look at home.

The street elevations are all very much in keeping with existing dwellings. The rear elevations are more contemporary, reflecting the changing way in which we use houses today. Incorporating an 'open plan living' approach with larger areas of glazing to encourage the use of outside spaces.

It is envisaged that the development will take due consideration of the environment. They use stone sourced from a local quarry, ground source heat pumps to provide a sustainable source of electricity and the use of sustainable building products such as sheep's wool insulation and grey water recycling systems are all being investigated.
